Evolution of Medicine

No one can discount the advances made in the last 100 years in modern allopathic medicine. Modern medicine provides a wide range of miracles, such as the pharmacopoeias that blossomed from life saving penicillin, machines that provide clear diagnostics, and surgeries that repair a damaged heart, However, it is becoming apparent to modern medical physicians and practitioners that pharmaceuticals and surgery are not the only answer, and sometimes, they are not even the proper answer.

As a result of the lack of concrete evidence from the viewpoint of modern science, many persons in modern medicine are skeptical of Oriental Medicine's healing capabilities. Double blind studies are nearly impossible to construct due to Oriental Medicine's nature of viewing each person as unique, requiring individualized treatment plans.

Perhaps medicine should be more willing to emulate physics, the marvelous science that easily accepts the seemingly complete opposites found in Newtonian and Quantum physics. Where else but in physics and chemistry, can we base so much technology on concepts and theories of invisible, minute particles? Oriental Medicine is also based on concepts of the unseen. Qi, the meridian systems, and even yin and yang are concepts within working models than have helped countless millions through the ages. Even though it is rooted in ancient history, it is not to be assumed that Oriental Medicine is static. Quite the contrary: throughout the centuries, physicians have expanded on the basics, adding and refuting precepts along the way. Oriental Medicine is still evolving. Research in Oriental Medicine is conducted using both the traditional and scientific models.

As modern medicine evolves, physicians are finding they need to add more tools to their tool belt. The tools of Oriental Medicine / Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are easily incorporated into the complete tool chest of healing.
